After an incredible year for games, 2024 looks set to deliver some more enthralling titles. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 promises an immersive and realistic flight experience on the Xbox Series X|S and PC, while Dragon’s Dogma 2 will carry on the action combat that impressed in the original game.

Obsidian’s new RPG Avowed will lean into action while keeping the RPG systems fans love. Meanwhile, Hollow Knight Silksong has captured the fervor of both the US and UK gaming communities.

Cannibal Tales

Cannibal Tales features an engaging storyline crafted by Ruggero Deodato, the director of the famous film of the same name. It’s composed of three narrative arcs, and PC Gamer reports that the first two episodes – The Interview and The Embalmer – will be released as visual novels, while the third should resume the old Borneo project with 3D gameplay.

Luca Guadagnino and Timothee Chalamet return in this moody road movie about youthful flesh-eaters finding love. Bones and All is a potent stew that may irritate some of its audience, but it’s sure to please Gen Z, who have been waiting for a YA cannibal romance like this for a decade.

There are few classes of humanity that provoke such a universal response as cannibals do, and it’s no wonder that people are captivated by them. But the same remoteness that fosters their ease and grace also harbors their barbarism. Cannibalism is their ruthless response to the ravages of civilisation.

Forgotten but Unbroken

Tactical turn-based strategy game inspired by XCOM and offering its own unique take on the genre. Be part of the resistance and meet historical WW2 heroes and fight against elite fighters of the 3rd Reich! The game features a cover system, destructible environments, and various weapons. It is being developed by Centurion Developments and will be released this year for PC via Steam.

Hillenbrand is a master storyteller who has crafted an inspirational tale that breaks new psychological ground. She vividly describes battles, explains technological advances such as the top-secret Norden bombsight and details the Japanese policy toward prisoners of war (including a kill-all order at the end of the war).

FrostPunk 2

After the success of its first game, developer 11 Bit Studios has revealed a sequel to its city-building survival title Frostpunk. During the PC Gaming Show 2023, it dropped a cinematic trailer for the game that will feature riots in an icy wasteland.

The trailer opens with a still blanket of snow as a narrator speaks in hushed tones about the importance of making sacrifices in order to save the world from disaster. Once the intro is done, we see the frozen wasteland swarming with people who seem to be engaged in rioting.

In a press release, the developers of the game teased that it would continue to be set in the post-apocalyptic setting, while narrating a tale about human ambition and societies striving for their ideals. They also noted that this time, players would encounter new types of threats sparked by escalating social differences. The game is scheduled to release on Steam and the Epic Games Store in 2024.

Civilization 7

Civilization 7 is the next installment in Firaxis Games’ venerable strategy series. The turn-based 4X game allows players to guide their civilization from an early settlement through many in-game millennia, achieving one of several victory conditions. These include military domination, technological superiority, or cultural influence over other human and computer-controlled opponents.

The next Civilization game is due out in 2024, though no details about gameplay have been released. Considering the developer’s track record, it’s likely that Civ 7 will deliver the same familiar experience for franchise fans.

It’s expected that the game will include new leaders and a more refined diplomatic system, which was criticised in Civilization VI. It may also feature new districts and cities to expand your empire.

With Civilization 7 still a few years away, rivals like Ara History Untold can offer an interim experience for fans eager to take to the continent once more. The title, developed by Oxide Games, was announced in 2022 and features some former Firaxis employees.
